The run from Darwin around to Cairns is along a very desolate coast line.  The section from Darwin to Nhulunbuy the coast is an Aboriginal reservation and boats are not allowed to land anywhere along there without prior permission.

At Nhulunbuy there is a large Bauxite mine with a small settlement and a very nice yacht club.  Once you leave town though there is nothing but bush.

The run across the gulf can be a very miserable run, we lucked out and had flat water.  Once around Cape York, the run south is again along a very undeveloped coast line.  Cairns (pronounced cans) is the first city (large town) of any size in North East Queensland.

Currently Dragon's Toy is located in Mooloolaba just north of Brisbane.
